I’m agreeing with many of your comments up until you expressed the wish that Mertz would “light up” the Badgers if we were to play Florida in a bowl game this year. With that comment, you lost me. Adios.

Sorry to see you go, of course I never stated a desire for Mertz's Gators to beat the Badgers but to let Mertz complete his redemption arc by giving the fans who never gave him a chance a bittersweet pill to swallow. Context and wording is key. Thanks for reading.

In the remote possibility that I misunderstood you while listening to this, I went back and listened again. After making your case that Phil Longo would have let Mertz be himself, etc., therefore he would have succeeded in the Badger’s new system, you continue: “I can’t wait, if we end up playing them in the Citrus Bowl, and if he lights us up, that’d be sweet retribution for him cuz he took a lot of crap in his time at Wisconsin, a lot of crap that he didn’t deserve.” (I do agree with you that he was unfairly criticized, for what it’s worth.)

In your fantasy bowl game, he would be playing against the very coaches who you thought would have let Mertz be Mertz and probably be successful. How does “lighting us up” not mean handing us a loss? Especially when you say it would be sweet retribution for him. Retribution would mean beating us; otherwise, there’s no retribution; we just beat him and the Gators and go home with the trophy.

Retribution can come via a moral victory. Because he could throw for 400 yards and 4 TDs and still lose. He could do his part, go above and beyond and show the "fans" who dogged him, and his defense or special teams could blow it in the end...so many scenarios where we could light up the Badgers and still lose. And it could be a way for me to have my cake and eat it too.

Would it be sweet to read the comments? 1000% Do I ever want the Badgers to lose a game? No and I don't think the quote you attribute to me says that. Of course I know how I speak/write/react so to it's clear to me...and I will give you the benefit of the doubt that it could be easily misconstrued.

Anyways I appreciate you taking the time to listen again and write a detailed response.
