Let's Build an Offense
We have entered the dark time of the year for Wisconsin football.
The time between the end of the recruiting cycle and the beginning of spring ball and be long and boring. It’s a time when news slows to a crawl, and analysis turns to rumor and punditry. Sure, I could spend my time reacting to every minor development whil sifting through the recycled talking points.+, but that isn’t why I started this page. From the beginning, my goal has been to educate Wisconsin football fans, to provide insights that go beyond the surface-level discussions, and to offer a deeper understanding of the game itself with the goal of enhancing the game day experience.
This offseason of course has presented opportunity to do just that. With the arrival of a new offensive coordinator and a fresh offensive philosophy it’s the perfect moment to take a step back and explore what truly goes into building an offensive system from the ground up.
That’s where my upcoming Let’s Build series comes in. Over the course of this series, we will construct an offensive system from the ground up as if we were building a playbook from page one. We’ll start with the fundamentals—establishing an offensive philosophy, identifying core principles, and developing a coherent language that players and coaches can use to communicate effectively. From there, we’ll move into scheme development: choosing the plays that best fit our philosophy, and building an adaptable system that can evolve with the game. By the end of this series, my hope is that you will not only have a deeper appreciation for the challenges of coaching but also gain the ability to see the game in a new light. So when the Badgers take the field next season, they won’t just see plays for what they are but the system that they are built upon.
And hey I might actually have to do some more writing.
