Welcome back to the classroom for Chapter two of our series on Introducing the Dairy Raid Offense. We started this series by dispelling myths about playing football under center. In Chapter 1 I broke down four basic Air Raid passing concepts, how to install them, and how the Badgers utilize their own versions. Today in Chapter 2 we will talk about two misunderstood aspects of the Dairy Raid passing game which are check-downs and the screen game.
Check-downs serve as crucial outlets for quarterbacks under pressure, helping to avert potential disasters and maintain offensive momentum. They also contribute to the strategic approach of forcing defenses to cover the entire field, even if it means minimal gains.
Meanwhile, screen plays serve as constraint plays, exploiting defensive aggression by creating numerical advantages in alternative spaces on the field. Understanding the importance of gaining yards while minimizing risks underscores the overarching philosophy of the Dairy Raid offense, emphasizing opportunities to get the ball to playmakers in space.
